Global Semiconductor Sales Hit Record High Of $627.6 billion in 2024. Where To Now?
that's up 19% YoY.
According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor sales reached an all time record high of $627.6 billion in 2024, an increase of 19.1% YoY, details here:
Breaking the number down into its component categories, sales of logic products totaled $212.6 billion in 2024, an increase of 19% YoY, making it the largest product category. Memory products were second in terms of sales, increasing by 78.9% YoY to reach a total of $165.1 billion.
Within the memory segment, DRAM sales amounted to $95 billion (our calculation), representing an 82.6% YoY increase, the largest percentage growth of any product category in 2024, driven in large part by the insatiable demand for HBM. NAND sales amounted to $65.5 billion (our calculation), up 71.7% YoY.
On a quarterly basis, semiconductor sales in Q424 amounted to another all time record high of $170.9 billion, up 17.1% YoY and up 3.0% QoQ.
Excepting the normal seasonal decline in Q124, this means that semiconductor sales have now grown each quarter since Q1 2023.
For the month of December 2024, semiconductor sales amounted to $57.0 billion, a decrease of 1.2% MoM but still up 17% YoY.
We anticipated the December slowdown when we last wrote about semiconductor sales back in September last year:
As for what happens at the end of 2024 and beyond, we should expect semi sales to be flat MoM in December, decline sequentially through each month of Q125 before resuming a similar growth pattern to the one we are experiencing this year. Let’s see…
Looking further ahead, we share our thoughts on where semiconductor sales are headed in 2025. Let’s dig in….
