Intel Former CEO Craig Barrett Says Splitting Intel In Two Is A Bad Idea & Backs Gelsinger

These days it seems that Intel is fair game for feedback on its performance, and more importantly, on that of its CEO, Pat Gelsinger. First, there was public critique issued by four former board members which we covered here:
As you will likely recall, the basic tenet of their argument was that Intel should separate out its foundry business into an entirely separate entity, and that should they be unwilling to do so, the US government should force their hand by withholding CHIPs Act funding until they complied.
This was followed in short order by a rebuttal of this perspective from former Intel CEO, Craig Barrett, details here.
Then came this Reuters Special Report, which posited that Mr. Gelsinger has fumbled Intel’s revival. More on this anon in a future post. Meanwhile, how should we interpret Mr. Barrett’s view that carving out Intel Foundry into an entirely separate company is a bad idea? Let’s dig in….
